Her hopes are oh so bright.
All that they dreamed and wished for, soon,
will actually come to light.
Eternal seeming years of waiting, done!
The chaos, madness, turmoil, finally put to rights.
Momentary despair descends, though…
What has he gone through “over there?”
"Will I be able to help see him through
Whatever may be haunting him?”
"How will he have changed?"
She knows that she has,
Become more independent, spunky.
But that doesn’t mean that
She doesn’t love him, need him.
Letters are all she has
Of him from those grimy, lonesome years.
Hardly a visit, but that
Was just the nature of War:
Everybody giving up something special,
To (here’s to hoping!) bring about a better future
"For the children of tomorrow".
He thinks about the awful waste
Of Life… his friends who won’t return
After all this crazy fighting, have we even really learned?
